About Us

Founded in 1999 in response to crippling health disparities in African-American neighborhoods throughout the city of Chicago and beyond, Working For Togetherness (WFT) is a small, community based, not-for-profit, minority owned and operated organization that specializes in the provision of STD, HIV/AIDS and Chronic Disease Prevention Services. While WFT is admittedly a relatively young community based organization (CBO), it has nevertheless managed to secure over half a million dollars in funding for its programs and has garnered national attention for its signature prevention initiatives.

WFT provides HIV/AIDS prevention outreach, counseling and (Rapid) testing services, and individuals- and group-level intervention services in select community areas/neighborhoods in Chicago that are predominantly African-American, and in the following nearby suburbs: Blue Island, Dolton, Harvey, Markham, Riverdale, Robbins, Summit and Robbins. In addition, WFT provides syphilis screening services in Chicago Heights, Ford Heights, Bellwood, Maywood and East Saint Louis. The agency provides the overwhelming bulk of the aforementioned services to African-American subpopulations that are at the highest risk of HIV infection and/or transmission. Specifically, WFT provides services to the following hard-to-reach groups: persons with HIV/AIDS (PLA); injection drug users (IDU); High Risk Heterosexuals (HRH); Men who have sex with men (MSM), non-injection drug users (N-IDU), sex workers, public housing residents, persons with a history of incarceration/juvenile delinquents, and homeless individuals.

Much, but certainly not all of WFT’s heralded success can be attributed to the innovative and culturally specific design of its product lines. However, the remainder of the credit must go to the organization’s highly competent employees, who of course implement these programs.
